Vietnam introduces its women empowerment achievements at UNHRC session
OVworld) – Assistant to the Foreign Minister Duong Tri Dung introduced Vietnam’s women empowerment as well as gender integration in the country’s development policies and strategies at the Annual Discussion of Integration of a Gender Perspective which took place within the framework of the 33rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva on September 26.
The move aims to promote women’s involvement in the country’s political, economic and social matters, especially in the National Assembly, civil authority agencies and businesses.
It is necessary to effectively implement international commitments to gender equality, particularly the realisation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, he said, stressing the role played by the UNHRC and other UN mechanisms in this regard.
As a member of the UNHRC since 2014, Vietnam has made tangible contributions to enhancing cooperation and dialogues between UNHRC member countries, Dung said, calling on the council and the UN in general to step up international cooperation in this field.
