Swimming at Karachi beaches banned
KARACHI: Karachi city administration has banned swimming in the sea given the upcoming monsoon rainfall prediction in the region, effective immediately.
In 2015, six members of a family drowned while picnicking at Manora beach, media reported.
The year before, at least 23 people died in drowning incidents in Karachi. Their remains were recovered from various beaches in the metropolis.
More than 150,000 people had turned up at Karachi’s beaches on the event of Eid in 2014 whereas there were only a handful of rescue personnel covering the coastline of the city which stretches to around 130 kilometres. – SAMAA
