Rangpur growers making handsome profit from early varieties of cauliflower
RANGPUR, Nov 1: Cultivation of early variety of cauliflower has made the growers delighted this season as they are making handsome profit from it.
Visiting many areas of the region this correspondent found the cauliflower growers are now harvesting their crops.
From the region, a massive quantity of vegetables including cauliflower is being transported to different markets of other districts including the capital city every year, sources said.
Halim Mia, a farmer at Helencha village under Mithapukur Upazila said he has been cultivating cauliflower variety on his 35 decimals of land for the several years.
This year, till today, he has earned a profit of Tk 15,000 and is expecting to make more.
Motaleb, another farmer of Dangapara village under Taraganj Upazila said he has cultivated early cauliflower on 40 decimals of land this season. He said he has earned so far Tk 14, 000 from its sale.
Many farmers in the region have attained economic solvency by cultivating early cauliflower, he further said.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said farming of early winter vegetables including cauliflower is gaining popularity in the region. Early harvesting ensures a good price for the growers.
Sources said favourable weather and high market demand have encouraged the cultivators to grow it on more lands. On the other hand, uses of modern technologies are boosting the vegetable production.
Farmers of the region urged the authority concerned to increase proper preservation facilities for their produce to get a satisfactory profit.
