$4.8M INVESTMENT IN RURAL HOME DEVELOPMENT
Government has invested close to $4.8million for the improvement of rural homes over the last five years under the Government’s Rural Housing Programme.
The Ministry of Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster Management permanent secretary Mr Meleti Bainimarama said the investment demonstrates the FijiFirst Government’s continuous commitment to improve the lives of rural Fijians.
This impact, Mr Bainimarama added, benefitted 556 families all over Fiji.
“The Rural Housing Programme provides affordable housing to rural Fijians with a view to help maintain and regenerate rural communities.
“It eliminates homelessness in rural Fiji through the provision of affordable, durable and cyclone resistant homes,” Mr Bainimarama explained.
In addition, the assistance also expands Government support and promotes community participation in rural areas.
A budgetary allocation of $1.7million was received last year for the improvement of rural homes that benefitted 125 families.
